| Ken Yeager |
For the first time in history, the supervisorial district covering much of San Jose and central Santa Clara County is being represented by a gay man. Ken Yeager, elected in June after receiving 52 percent of the vote in a three-person race to succeed a departing Jim Beall (who was elected to the state Assembly), participated in his first meeting and was officially sworn in last week.
Yeager, who previously spent six years as a San Jose city councilman, told the Bay City News he is ìhonored to join the Board of Supervisors and to take on vital issues such as homelessness, public safety and protecting safety-net services.î
Also high on his list of priorities, he added, is improving city-county relations.
Yeager previously shared his excitement over his election on his campaign website.
ìThe words ëthank youí hardly capture my gratitude to everyone for all their help,î he wrote. ìWhether it was making a contribution, endorsing my candidacy, volunteering in the office, making phone calls, walking precincts, hosting a coffee or fundraiser, putting up a lawn sign, talking to neighbors and co-workers or voting for me, it all added up to my ability to win the race for County Supervisor.î
Yeager graduated from San Jose State University and received his doctorate in education from Stanford University. Since 1991 he has been a lecturer at San Jose State University, where continues to teach classes.
