Gay Hip Hop or "HomoHop" as it has been called was brought to the attention of the larger LGBT Community in Alex Hinton's 2005 documentary film about the genre, Pick up the Mic. The 90 minute film profiled 18 LGBT hip hop artists throughout the world. Pick up the Mic debuted on MTV Network's LOGO earlier this month. Deadlee, and Johnny Dangerous--who are part of this tour--were featured in the film. Deadlee's music video for Good Soldier II is presently being played on the MTV owned gay network, LOGO's music shows, New Now Next and The Click List.
The groundbreaking tour for LGBT hip hop artists is yet to pick up any major sponsors, with the sole exception of Red Magazine, who will be the tour's official magazine sponsor in Arizona and Texas. Despite this, the Artists will be embarking on the 10 city, five state road trip. This tour will possibly be the focus of a Reality show with Rachel Powell (My Life Is A Sitcom) serving as Executive Producer.
A fundraiser for HomoRevolution Tour 2007 and LGBT Hip Hop showcase will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 8 PM in Long Beach, California at Mick and Macks. The 3.5 hour show will feature performances by Deadlee, Delacruz, Salvimex, Melange Lavonne, JB Rap (Oakland), JFP, Dunn Deal, B.I.G., Dimondz in Da Ruff, Cat Eyez and introduce a new out gay Hip Hop Artist from Phoenix. Naya'ri S. (Fusion) will host the event. Admission is $7 at the door.
