Despite National Guidelines, Private Insurers, Emergency Rooms, Federal & State Agencies Fail to Routinely Test for HIV
WASHINGTON, DC (November 20, 2008)— While the U.S. AIDS epidemic simmers largely unnoticed by most Americans, a failure to widely implement routine HIV testing continues to fuel its spread, HIV researchers and experts said today. Almost 60,000 Americans were infected with HIV last year, and, nationwide, 50-to-70 percent of new sexually transmitted infections are spread by people who do not know they are infected.

ROBIN TYLER: CA Supreme Court to hear case on unconstutionality of Prop 8
Tyler and her wife, DIANE OLSON, were the first lesbian plaintiffs to sue the state of California challenging the ban on same sex marriage in February, 2004. As pioneers of this civil rights struggle, Robin & Diane were granted permission to be the only couple in Los Angeles County to receive a marriage license on June 16, 2008; and were married in front of the Beverly Hills courthouse.

Huckabee’s Comments Fail to Realize the Hundreds of LGBT Hate Crime Victims
WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization, issued a statement today on the insensitive remarks made by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee while appearing this morning on ABC’s The View. In a discussion on marriage equality, the governor implied the rights of LGBT people are not civil rights because the LGBT community has not had violence inflicted upon it.

The 10th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance is a solemn tribute to those who have lost their lives to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice and also aims to raise awareness of the constant threat of brutality faced by the transgender community.

Mormon Church Doesn’t Like to be Singled Out
Last Friday, in a highly unusual move, the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) issued a press release out of the Church’s Newsroom in Salt Lake City, Utah. President Thomas S. Monson called for "Respect, Civility in Public Discourse." The very next day the New York Times broke a story on the Church’s involvement in the campaign entitled "Mormons Tipped Scale in Ban on Gay Marriage."
