Californiaís Santa Clara County Welcomes First-Ever Gay Supervisor
For the first time in history, the supervisorial district covering much of San Jose and central Santa Clara County is being represented by a gay man. Ken Yeager, elected in June after receiving 52 percent of the vote in a three-person race to succeed a departing Jim Beall, participated in his first meeting and was officially sworn in last week.

Glasgow City Council Leader Splits With Wife, Says He's Gay
The leader of the City Council in Glasgow, Scotland announced Friday that he split with his wife and that heís gay. Councilman Steven Purcell says he will carry on as head of the administration and insisted he has ambitious plans for Scotland's biggest city.

Howard Dean Wants More Gays, Minorities on the Ballot
DNC Chairman Howard Dean said the Democratic Party must work toward getting gay and minority leaders on the ballot. 'We've got to share power, not just responsibility, from now on,' Dean told a crowd of about 200 at the International Gay & Lesbian Leadership Conference Saturday, an annual gathering of gay public officials.
